Richard Liu Qiangdong Continues To Expand The Company That He Built With His Own Hands
Richard Liu Qiangdong is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of JD.com, which is an e-commerce company that is valued at more than $11 billion. He was born in China and learned his working values from his parents who worked in coal-shipping. He attended the People’s University of China and received his bachelor’s degree in sociology while there. Along the way, he decided to learn computer coding so he would be able to compete in today’s market.
Richard Liu first went to work with Japan Life after graduating from college. He worked his way up until he became its director of computers. In 1998, he made the decision to startup his own venture. His company began in a small retail space in Beijing, where he sold magneto-optical products. While many other vendors were selling low quality, knock-off items, he was offering products of the highest quality.
Richard Liu Qiangdong quickly grew his company into one with twelve separate locations. He named the company Jingdong, and in 2003, he decided to move into the e-commerce sector. He closed all of his retail locations just two years later and renamed his company to 360Buy Jingdong. Richard Liu initially sold the same items online that he was selling at brick-and-mortar locations but eventually began to work with other companies who desired to sell their goods on his website.
